Chef Alfred portale opens first restaurant outside Manhattan at Fontainebleau Miami Beach

(Miami Beach, FL) - Alfred Portale, chef and owner of perennial New York City favorite Gotham Bar and Grill, is among the culinary elite comprising Fontainebleau Miami Beach’s signature restaurant collection. Gotham Steak, a 16,000 square ft., two-level restaurant that sits just off the historic lobby, is a creative reinterpretation, in both cuisine and design, of a traditional steakhouse. The menu expands beyond modern American steakhouse fare to include Florida’s freshest seafood, specialty cuts of meat and a cellar with more than 1,500 wine variations from all over the world.

Gotham Steak’s haute but accessible cuisine appeals to youthful diners looking for bold, dramatic flavors as well as more discerning diners who appreciate time-honored cooking. Drawing inspiration from his Italian heritage, extensive background in French technique and admiration for Asian simplicity, Chef Portale’s dishes each have their own architectural design, bringing attention to the colors and textures of the carefully crafted recipe and adding to the dining experience. Gotham offers certified prime cuts: beautifully marbled New York strips, Rib-eyes and Porterhouse steaks and fork-tender cuts of Filet Mignon. Gotham’s specialty steaks and chops include Colorado Rack of Lamb, Filets, 50-day aged New York strips, “Churrasco” Skirt Steak and Braised Beef Short Ribs. Gotham also features a well-appointed raw menu of daily oyster selections, clams, shrimp, , hamachi and tuna tartare as well as two distinct caviar selections. Composed entrées round out the menu with fresh fish offerings such as steamed Maine Lobster and Miso Marinated Black Cod with Bok Choy, Shitake Mushrooms, Sticky Rice and Soy Lemongrass Ginger Sauce. A traditional, yet indulgent choice of sides, soups and salads are also available.

“Gotham Bar & Grill is a favorite of all New Yorkers; consistently praised for star rated service and spot on food day in and day out,” said Thomas Connell, Executive Chef, Fontainebleau Miami Bach. “It is this consistency of quality that Alfred Portale has been known for during his 26 year run at Gotham. It has been our intention to create Gotham Steak from that same mold. Excellent from day one!”

Jeffrey Beers International, known for witty, inspired designs with a timeless quality, created in Gotham Steak a sleek and glamorous space that is intimate and enchanting. Towering floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the dining room in natural light during the day and provide sweeping views of the pulsating pool deck at night. A 10,000 bottle wine room bisects the restaurant’s two levels, while a sparkling chandelier of strung, hand-blown glass links the spaces, descending through an opening in the upper floor, appearing to hover magically in the center of the lower level. With seating for 300, the dining rooms are outfitted with richly upholstered custom banquettes and chairs around ultra-modern bleached wood table tops. The lower level brings an even more personal feeling to the dining experience, with lowered ceilings accented by the glow of softly lit coves. The open kitchen on the lower level has a commanding view of the dining room, giving guests a glimpse into the craftsmanship and precision with which Portale composes his signature dishes. Guests also have the option of dining al-fresco on the patio area, which overlooks the VIP pool and main pool deck. A private dining room is also available for a more intimate and luxurious culinary experiences, situated just off the state-of-the-art open kitchen.
